David Ellefson has had a busy eight months of creating music and performing live. On October 7, 2022 he released Vacation In The Underworld with vocalist Jeff Scott Soto under the banner ELLEFSON/SOTO. On January 27, 2023 he released an EP with THE LUCID entitled Saddle Up And Ride. The group features Vinnie Dombrowski (SPONGE), Drew Fortier (BANG TANGO), and Mike Heller (FEAR FACTORY) among its ranks.
Throughout the winter of 2022-2023, Ellefson performed across the United States with the KINGS OF THRASH. The thrash metal act, featuring fellow MEGADETH alumni Jeff Young and, takes on the early MEGADETH albums Killing Is My Business..., So Far, So Good..., and Peace Sells.... On most nights you could hear an album or two in its entirety. Their efforts were captured on their latest CD/DVD release Live At The Whisky A Go Go.
The latest project featuring David Ellefson is called DIETH. He is flanked by ex-ENTOMBED A.D. frontman Guilherme Miranda and ex-DECAPITATED drummer Michael Lysejko. Their debut album To Hell And Back was released on June 2, 2023 through Napalm Records. I had the chance to catch up with David Ellefson at a cafe in Gdansk, Poland (excuse the background chatter), shortly after the album's release.
Highlights include:
-Discussion of new album To Hell And Back
-How DIETH was formed
-The autobiographical nature of the lyrics
-The stories behind the singles
-Crafting music videos to match lyrical themes
-DIETH's first show, and future gigs
-Splitting time with KINGS OF THRASH
-How they formed and the concept behind it
-How the project is spawning new music
-And much, much more
