2021 saw the release of Energy Overload by the unlikely pairing of drumming legend Carmine Appice and up-and-coming guitarist Fernando Perdomo. Under the moniker APPICE PERDOMO PROJECT, the album was a fun 'lockdown' collaboration that Appice himself didn't believe would get much notice. There was no promotion, it was just put out and made available.
While the album wasn't pushed, the critics ate up Energy Overload. The album received high praise from some of the most notable sites and magazines across the globe. Based on the response, Carmine and Fernando decided to craft a follow-up. Running Up That Hill was released on May 26, 2023 through Cleopatra Records.
The centerpiece of the album is an instrumental cover of the KATE BUSH song bearing the same name, which blasted back into the mainstream after appearing in the final season of the Netflix series Stranger Things. In addition to the cover song, APPICE PERDOMO PROJECT delivers 12 other diverse and unique instrumentals that differ from your typical lyric free album.
I had the chance to speak with Carmine Appice ahead of the album's release and the day after his 1st ever live show with Fernando Perdomo. The duo have more live performances on the way.
