2. Doomriders - Black Thunder (Deathwish) 3. Ramesses - The Tomb (Invada) 4. YOB - The Illusion of Motion -The Unreal Never Lived 9Metal Blade) 5. Fireball Ministry - Our Rock is Not Their Rock (Liquor and Poker) 6. Hermano - Dare I Say (Meteor City) 7. Superheavygoatass - 60,000 Years (Arclight) 8. High on Fire - Blessed Black Wings (Relapse) 9. Fight Paris - Paradise Found (Trustkill) 10.The Agony Scene - The Darkest Red (Roadrunner)
1) Ministry - Rantology (Sanctuary) I’m incredibly biased about my selections for #1 (and if you pick up this CD you’ll know why). Remixed, redux, live and raw- Ministry celebrates 25 years of industrial, rock and anarchy by revisiting its past and offering a brief glimpse into the future with one new track. Some people mellow with age, but it’s a sure bet that Al Jourgensen won’t be pulling a Rod Stewart anytime soon, thank God. 1) Sentenced - The Funeral Album (Century Media) The end of the road for the Finnish goth-metal outfit, and what a way to go. If you like The Cult and Type O Negative –and just got turned on to H.I.M,- you’ll find any Sentenced disc a welcome addition to your collection. They called it quits on October 1, 2005 and left behind an incredible legacy of sullen, mournful rock. The band is dead and gone, but it’s never too late to get into them. Start here then pick up “The Cold White Light” and “Crimson.” 2) Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil (Warner) This is the band I would be in if I was twenty-something and had a band. Rawk! 3) Danko Jones - We Sweat Blood (Razor & Tie) It seems that “I Love Living In the City” is one of the most frequently played songs on my iPod. Maybe I just like the Fear-meets-Minor Threat feel, but that song, as well as a slew of others, is nothing but rock. This guy is nuts and it helps to see him live to understand, but this cd rules. 4) Jizzy Pearl - Vegas Must Die (Shrapnel) Yes, THAT Jizzy Pearl. He puts out a straight-up dynamite rock record that’s one of the best things he’s ever done… and STILL people bitch because he’s not Stephen Pearcy. There’s no justice. Put on your black tank top and check it out. (“Look At You Now” rocks.) 5) Black Label Society - Mafia (Artemis) Zakk might actually be outdoing David Lee Roth and Paul Stanley for quotable quotes on stage and off, but he remains an incredible talent. His tribute to Dimebag, “In This River” is the macho rock/metalhead equivalent of a chick-flick tearjerker. You see that video? No, it ain’t Ozzy or Pride & Glory, but I mean, wow. Pass the Kleenex. Thank God for the ATHF DVD… “Yo, is the milkshake here? The beating I’m about to put on him is gonna be indescribable…” Fire it up, indeed. 6) Fear Factory - Transgression (Calvin) Brutal. Too many covers, but still maintains the trademark FF sound, which can be glorious and is always unrelenting. Killer stuff. 7) Beautiful Creatures - Deuce (Spitfire) Been too long, they never had a chance, Warner shoulda kept ‘em… go rock LA-style and “Light my cigarette…” 8) Towers of London - Fuck It Up (TVT) I was going to put this first, because this was, truly, my favorite song of the summer. It’s only a single, available on import. Trashy, sleazy glam-punk, the damn record doesn’t even come out until 2006, but if you listen to it ten times, that’s kinda like one album. People seem to either love or hate this band, but I think it’s clear where I stand… 9) Arch Enemy - Doomsday Machine (Century Media) This cd rocks, but every time I listen to “Nemesis,” I hear this: “Hallo, mein sexy Mickschen! Tied for Last: 10) Corrosion of Conformity - In the Arms of God (Sanctuary) Too rock to write about sober. Awesome, though. Fuckin’ awesome, man. 10) Fireball Ministry -<>i>Their Rock Is Not Our Rock (Liquor & Poker) “Hi. We haven’t listened to anything since 1975. These are our guitars, and we play them through those Marshalls over there. Hey, you wanna do a shot with us before we start? Yeah, man… it’s all about the big, fat chords and the leads and the fuckin’ rock, dude. Fuck yeah.”
2) Glenn Hughes - Soul Mover (Sanctuary) 3) Mother Pearl - Broken Thorny Crown (Unsigned) 4) Europe - Start From the Dark (Sanctuary) 5) Joe Lynn Turner - The Usual Suspects (Frontiers) 6) Ministry - Rantology (Sanctuary) 7) Brides of Destruction - Runaway Brides (Shrapnel) 8) Deep Purple - Rapture of the Deep (Eagle) 9) Iron Maiden - Death on the Road (Sanctuary) 10) Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution (Epic)

Go ahead and hate me. I love power pop! And these guys are really good musicians and songwriters. 02.) Fall Out Boy From Under The Cork Tree (Island) Don’t knock em, the cd rocks, no ballads, just rock and energy. My kinda music! 03.) Garbage Bleed Like Me (ALMO) My Wisconsin buddies deliver once again. “Bad Boyfriend” kick ass song. Long live Spooner! 04.) Black Eyed Peas Monkey Business (A&M) Hey, I’m a chick and I like to dance, this cd is hot! They sample stuff so subtly, I wish all hop-hop people would take notes. 05.) Def Leppard Rock Of Ages The Definitive Collection (Universal Catalog) The liner notes rule as much as the music. I listened to this cd on many road trips this summer. Rock Brigade! 06.) Sentenced The Funeral Album (Century Media) All the songs we play from this cd on KNAC.COM are awesome! 07.) Supagroup Rules (Food Chain) When will the world catch up with the ultra coolness of Supagroup? They rule, no pun intended. 08.) The Darkness One Way Ticket To Hell And Back (Atlantic) This band is exactly what the world needs. They are funny and campy but they rock! I saw them live once and I kept thinking how Thin Lizzy like they were. Justin the singer is the savior of rock! WWJD, what would Justin do? 09.)Ft Minor Album Title (WB) The Linkin Park kid goes hip-hop and friggin rocks the mic. Rap with lyrics that don’t suck, who knew it was possible? 10.) A Tie: Foo Fighters In Your Honor (RCA) and Lisa Marie Presley Now What (Capitol) I love Dave Grohl, he is such a great song writer. And The King’s daughter has Johnny Ramone and Ramones cover on her cd, she rocks. I met her this year too, she’s about 5 foot 2 and she was very cool.
