Interview By Mike Lewis
Southern rock has been a staple of the music industry for decades. With its blend of rock, country, a touch of blues and today, some shades of metal, the genre dates back decades. Gregg Allman however has stated that the term itself is redundant and in fact, it’s simply just rock. The elements incorporated may be slightly different to some degree, but I would concur that “Southern rock” is rock but with its own unique flair and style.
THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND and LYNYRD SKYNYRD, two of the biggest names associated with the genre, might no longer be together but that doesn’t mean that it is dead and in fact, far from it. There are many long-standing acts and of course newcomers as well. Nashville’s own STONE SENATE may be a name new to some, but the band has been hard at work for a decade getting their music out to fans at live concerts across the United States. The band released their first EP back in 2016 and now they have a new release, Dusk, which will be soon followed up by another EP entitled Dawn. At the helm of the production is none other than Toby Wright, a name some might recognize from his work with bands such as KORN, OZZY OSBOURNE, FEAR FACTORY, SOULFLY, and SLAYER just to name a few.
Front man and guitarist Clint Woolsey recently took time to sit down with me and discuss the new album, other upcoming releases, and touring including playing not only the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally but also playing at the legendary Whisky in Los Angeles and paying a visit to the iconic Rainbow Room. Check out the interview, check out the music, and at some point Clint and I will sit down for another chat about STONE SENATE and quite a bit more.
