Billy Idol live in St. Paul By Tokemaster General, Contributor Friday, September 30, 2005 @ 11:27 AM
OK, Billy's on the rack next to the stool for this station, but I'm a music whore and wanted to see this show, especially after I missed the Cinderella show and the Nickelback show (both sold out). All these shows were held at our newest night-club-concert-venue "The Myth." Seems the owner is going for the 80's + bands and doing well (with good promotion). Billy opened with a few songs from Devil's Playground, I've listened to some of the album and thought his voice was shot but I was seriously wrong, he sounded great playing "Cherie", "Plastic Jesus", "Rat Race" and a couple others off the new disc but was dead on for the classics "Flesh For Fantasy", "Eyes Without A Face", "Rebel Yell", "Sweet Sixteen" etc. Steve Stevens was in great form and seemed like he was having a great time, there must have been some large tracts of land in the front row cuz those guys kept looking-singing-talking in that direction, can't blame em it was almost sold out. (1500-2500). The encore consisted of "Hot In The City" and ten minute rendition of "Mony Mony" although not my favorite, the women loved it and the crowd was over 50% women so it wasn't too bad. Highlights of the show included many extended versions of the classics and a couple Generation X Songs thrown in. There was no opening band, I think the show clocked in around 90 minutes, definitely worth it if you get a chance, not a hard rocker but entertaining nonetheless.............
