Paul Di'Anno Live in Valencia, Venezuela By Tokemaster General, Contributor Monday, June 6, 2005 @ 1:27 AM
Finally, after a four-hour drive we arrived at the site for this much-expected show to pick up our backstage passes, which we got for working on a radio station. By 11:00 a.m. local bands finished soundcheck, Di’Anno’s band did that the night before, so we had nothing else to do there. We left the site and checked at a nearby hotel to get ready for the night. This was a festival, so four other Venezuelan bands performed that day starting at 5:20 p.m.
Paul Di’Anno hit the stage at 11:10 p.m. and, to be honest, I wasn’t expecting that much, but I was wrong. From the moment they hit the first notes, this band totally blew everyone. The band was tight, the sound was LOUD and, what’s important, clear. The show was mostly Iron Maiden’s first two albums and some of Di’Anno’s solo material, which I think sounded in place.
Di’Anno and his band managed to entertain the 4,000 screaming fans that night with some good material that we won’t probably hear from the original Iron Maiden in it’s original form. The show ended at 12:40 a.m., the crowd was happy and wet by the rain, the band was happy and very receptive.
This was a really good show. Totally worth the driving hours to see a now NWOBHM legend.
