Motley Crue Live in Ft. Lauderdale (#2) By Tokemaster General, Contributor Monday, March 7, 2005 @ 9:54 AM
It was Thursday night in South Florida -- what to do? No football, no hockey… how about a Rock & Roll Circus!!!
That's right Motley Crue are back, with midgets, dancing girls, lots of fire, smoke and songs they haven't played in years! And even Nicko McBrain was there, rocking out to the Crue! Last year, Nikki Sixx was a Bride of Destruction, and on the cover of Hustler Rocks, but tonight he was back alongside Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee, doing what they do best as MOTLEY CRUE!
The show started with a movie, looking back at what they have done, and everyone started to cheer louder as the band hit the stage, after the midgets came out of the box, welcoming us to the ROCK & ROLL CIRCUS, and the band rocked into “Shout at the Devil,” “Too Fast For Love” and “On With the Show.” Everyone sounded great, and big props to Mick Mars, ‘cause he was shredding on guitar!
They did a few more songs and took an intermission, going with the whole circus theme, and came back out on motorcycles, doing “Girls,Girls,Girls” (with the almighty lyric, "…the Dollhouse in Ft. Lauderdale," which got a big cheer out of the Ft. Lauderdale crowd!!) and then into “Wild Side,” where all hell was breaking loose on the stage -- everyone was rocking, and the girls were dancing, with all kinds of weird footage on the video screen! There were minor problems, but it was the first show of the tour, after the band hadn't been together with the original lineup since 1999. Vince fell once, some minor microphone problems for one of the hosts of the show, one of the midgets.
They continued to rock all night, over two and a half hours, playing some stuff they hadn't played in a while. They even did “Glitter” that went into “Without You,” plus Tommy Lee did a very unique drum solo that was part of his DJ show. Not alot of the fans dug it, but I loved it and thought it was very cool. It was where he flew off the regular drum set to two sets, back and forth, tied in and flying around and sparking up at the end of solo. Nikki even did a bass/keyboard solo, which was different but cool, especially at the end -- he sparked up and was on fire!
The band gave all and it showed on the faces of the crowd, who were entertained and that is what rock and roll is all about. Great to have them back on tour playing arenas...
They ended the show with two covers, and they rocked -- had the fire going… The songs were “Helter Skelter” and “Anarchy in the UK”... Earlier in the 2nd set, Nikki and Vince hugged and Tommy had nothing but love for the crowd and Mick, you could tell, felt great to be on stage rocking again with his buds...
THANK YOU MOTLEY CRUE, THANK YOU KNAC, FOR THE TICKETS...ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER!!!
