Turbonegro Live in Hollywood By Tokemaster General, Contributor Sunday, January 16, 2005 @ 1:05 PM
Well it’s been 15 months since the last Turbonegro tour of So. Cal, but it was worth the wait. Fullerton Dad and his long time concert buddy Gordon M. headed out to the HOB. The line to get in was long and security checked everyone with metal detectors -- it was all right because we live in a different America now (Dimebag, RIP.)
Inside the place was packed and when the first band, Eagles of Death Metal, hit the stage. The large fan base for this band went wild. This is Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age's side band. They were a cross between Neil Young's Crazy Horse, The Darkness and BTO. Two guitarists and Josh on drums, and they were great. A must-see live band.
After a short wait, it was time for Darkness to descend on Hollywood and it did in a BIG way. “The Buzzard of Flames” blared from the speakers while Turbonegro hit the stage and tore into “Just Flesh.” Hank was wearing a big white fur cape and had his eyes painted. The Best Band in the World was whipping the crowd into a frenzy with a take no prisoners approach.
Here are the songs that followed:
Self Destructo Bust
Turbonegro leaves the stage and the crowd wants an encore. “The Age of
Pamparius” is played on the PA while Turbonegro comes back out. Hank is now
dressed like Santa. I bet that is how Santa in Norway looks, black hair and
heavy set. They encore with:
Pamparius
Turbonegro can do no wrong. The crowd sings along or puts their arms or fists
in the air in unison with them and it is amazing. Here is a band from Norway
that ends their show with a song by Orange County's own Agent Orange. Trash
from Orange County's past is alive and well.
