Spiders & Snakes Reform, Release New CD By Sefany Jones, Contributing Editor Tuesday, January 11, 2005 @ 11:51 AM
Well, the "dynamic duo" is back. Founding members Lizzie Grey and Timothy Jay have reformed Spiders & Snakes as an acoustic duo highlighting only vocals/guitar/percussion (like the original T Rex band with Marc Bolan and Mickey Finn). The exciting release in January 2005 of the long-overdue album from these Hollywood veterans may prove to be the biggest and best in Spiders & Snakes' notorious history as legends of the Hollywood, California underground.
Entitled Hollywood Ghosts, the album features 12 brand new studio tracks with guest appearances from Angelo Moore from Fishbone on saxophone, Stephen Ellis from Survivor on harmonica and Matt Cross formerly of the band N.Y.C. on bass.
Recorded over a two year period, the album is the band's seventh release overall and their first studio album in half a decade. The bonus DVD disc is a veritable 15-year documentary of the band in the form of music videos, backstage and on-air interviews and a slide show of rare and never-before-seen photos presented over a soundtrack of the band's illustrious past.
Produced by Gavin Ross, Hollywood Ghosts explores various songwriting styles and musical genres, including the lead vocal debut of drummer/keyboardist/co-founder Timothy Jay on four songs. Jay wrote and/or co-wrote over half of the original material on this album with partner Lizzie Grey. The mixture of the duo's vocal and writing styles lends and extraordinary touch and depth to the material, which makes Hollywood Ghosts unlike previous releases in Spiders & Snakes fifteen-year career.
The band are currently booking acoustic shows in the Hollywood area and have been appearing on a consistent basis at the 14 Below, Universal Bar& Grill, the Cat Club, The Joint and Paladinos. Other possible tour cities include Nashville, Oklahoma City, Phoenix and Las Vegas.
In addition, the band has been recently featured in a coffee table book that's creating a sensation called Hollywood Rocks!, published by Cleopatra Records. This photo book is a veritable yearbook on the 1980s/1990s Hollywood metal era featuring never-before-published pictures of Axl Rose, Motley Crue, Ratt, LA Guns, Warrant, Great White and many, many more superstars of rock.
The audio companion to the book will be released in spring 2005 in the form of a 4 CD box set. Spiders & Snakes will also be featured on the audio companion box set and have been interviewed on camera for a short documentary film also to be released by Cleopatra Records for the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
Is this the year of the Spider? Is it the year of the Snake? Lizzie Grey and long-time musical partner Timothy Jay are again gambling on both! Stay tuned to SpidersandSnakes.com for news updates.
