Dead Skin Mask Live in San Antonio By Tokemaster General, Contributor Tuesday, November 9, 2004 @ 9:26 PM
I recently saw the Slayer tribute act, Dead Skin Mask. I have seen other "Slayer bands" before, as well. For that very reason, I was surprised to find myself in attendance at another one! Dead Skin Mask, BY FAR, is the best one yet!
Looking before they took the stage, I saw equipment that, for a minute, made me wonder if in fact Slayer themselves were about to play! A huge monster of Tama drums topped with Paiste cymbals, ESP, Jackson, Marshall, B.C. Rich, all ready to annihilate the crowd just as a shock-wave levels trees from a nuclear blast!
They opened with "Hell Awaits" -- nice! Next was the "slow" Slayer, "South of Heaven" and "Mandatory Suicide." What surprised me is that they also played alot of songs I have NEVER seen any other band play: "Sex, Murder, Art," "War Ensemble," "Dittohead" and "At Dawn They Sleep." "Dead Skin Mask," "Seasons In The Abyss" and of course "Angel Of Death" were played effortlessly also.
I would say, with out a doubt, other Slayer tribute bands had better get on the ball, because, Dead Skin Mask is not some bar cover band. These guys mean business!
