KISS Live in Los Angeles By Tokemaster General, Contributor Monday, January 19, 2004 @ 8:12 AM
At 7:45 pm, the curtain pulled back and from high above KISS was lowered to the stage on the drum riser with the opening of “Detroit Rock City.” The place went crazy for KISS and all their theatrics. Everyone was there to see KISS and only KISS, and in my opinion, Aerosmith and KISS should switch with KISS headlining.
As for the rest of the show, after the opening song, they went right into “Deuce” with Gene walking around with the high steps and the tongue. As he made his way to the side of the stage, the crowd went nuts. KISS performed one classic after another. They even threw in a post-makeup tune “Lick It Up,” which was cool, followed by “Hotter Than Hell.” Next up was one of the highlights of the show, the famous fire breathing by Gene. Then as the dry ice mist poured on to the stage, all you could see was Gene, illuminated in green light, while he played the bass. As this went on, he suddenly flew to the top of the lights, on to a platform where he sang “God Of Thunder.”
After saying goodnight, there was a brief delay while the crowd chanted “KISS, KISS, KISS.” Peter Criss emerged from backstage and sang “Beth” on a stool in front of the stage with a towel around his neck. He then handed out roses to the women in the crowd. The rest of the band came back out and Paul Stanley told the crowd they have never asked anyone to join them on stage before but they made an exception in this case. Joe Perry joined them on stage for “Strutter” wearing the famous KISS boots. After Perry left the stage, Paul said that there was only one thing left to do and that was to “Rock ‘N Roll All Night (And Party Every Day).” As the final song came to an end, the stage began to lift Gene (on the left) and Tommy (on the right) into the air along with Peter Criss’ drum set while dry ice mist jetted out of the bottom like a rocket taking off. As this was going on, Paul was in the middle of the stage smashing his guitar while explosions and firecrackers were going off all around them -- What a show!
I strongly recommend KISS because you will be a fan if you weren’t already.
