I finally got to see Slaughter live on August 21st after being a fan of theirs for many years. They and Warrant were cool enough to come to Virginia for one show in between shows in Ohio for the "Rock Never Stops" tour with Whitesnake and Winger. The crowd, although small, was enthusiastic. It was also advantageous to a short guy like me who was able to get a front row view of the band, up close and personal.
For my first time seeing Slaughter, I was not disappointed. They sounded just as good, if not better, than their studio albums and genuinely seemed to be having a good time. The only peculiarity was the absence of Blas Elias, the regular drummer. However, the drummer behind the skins did a fabulous job nonetheless. At one point during his drum solo, Blando and Dana Strum casually strolled to the bar on the other side of the building and got drinks, clearly a band that does not mind mingling with the "regular" people in the crowd.
The band threw several guitar picks to the audience and yes, I got my first pick ever HANDED to me by Jeff Blando! You rock Blando! I even got to slap hands with Dana and Mark, clearly something I could never do in a large arena.
Slaughter played hard for a solid hour. I would have paid double to see them play another hour, but I am happy that I finally got to see them play live. If you have a chance to see them at a small venue like Jaxx in Springfield, VA, by all means do so. Keep rockin' Slaughter, and thanks for the GREAT show!
