Even with minimal publicity, Slaughter was able to pack in a crowd inn Albuquerque, NM. Playing to an enthusiastic (and capacity) crowd, Mark Slaughter and the boys shared two hours of good time rock 'n roll with a town that was starving for melodic rock.
The band clearly enjoyed playing their hit songs of the 1980's, and managed to throw in a few surprises along the way (Dio, Motley Crue, Black Sabbath and more)! All too often, bands roll through that are clearly playing to earn a paycheck; Slaughter definitely wasn't going through the motions, and that attitude makes for all the difference in the world in a performance. Not only is Mark still capable of hitting the "Memorex" high notes, but is also a very capable guitar player. The instrumental solos were jaw dropping; Jeff Blando could almost pass for Randy Rhodes at times (in appearance, mannerism and capability). Dana Strum and Blas Elias played their respective asses off, and passed out several dozen guitar picks into the crowd. Even their roadie became a part of the show, with Jeff asking him to hold his guitar for a moment; Jeff swung around and dropped the guys pants right their on the stage (nope - no drawers underneath)! I have no clue who the roadie is, but he ensured people in the front row had guitar picks, and women in the crowd would occasionally throw cigarettes to him in appreciation for his effort.
In 20+ years of attending rock concerts, this is the first time EVER that I've wanted to shake a roadies hand! This is clearly a tight band that is enjoying playing their brand of music to an appreciative crowd. To hell with MTV, and the radio stations that won't play the music that WE want to hear; Slaughter is welcome back to New Mexico anytime they wish -- it would have been worth triple the price of admission for the performance that was given tonight. UP THE IRONS!!!
