Opeth Live in Minneapolis

First off, Opeth know how to play metal. Easily one of the very best metal band out there today and perhaps ever. No band, metal or not, have the ability to cover that much ground in a song. The ability to go from absolute extremes and make it work so beautifully. And this would be my first, but definitely not last time seeing them.
Opeth started off the evening, which surprised me because I thought Porcupine Tree was going to play first. They wasted no time and opened up with "Windowpane." It was amazing. Mikael's voice was just as good live, if not even better than it was on their records. He hit every note with perfection on both guitar and vocals. Lopez's drumming was definitely more impressive live as well. I was hoping to hear at least one of their heavier songs to see if that was really Mikael growling those vocals, but that didn't happen because they were supporting their more mellow, clean vocals Damnation album. Opeth played every song from Damnation, plus a few goodies.
"To Bid You Farewell" was amazing, but the highlight of the night was definitely "Face of Melinda" from the Still Life album. For a moment, during the climax of “Melinda,” all was right with the world when Peter, Mikael, and Martin banged their heads in sync with their long hair flailing viciously. Their cover of Deep Purple's "Soldier of Fortune" was also pulled off quite well.
I'll have to give this show a 9.9/10.
