First off, let me thank KNAC for winning the contest to get tix for Motorhead/Dio/Iron Maiden. [You’re welcome! – KNAC]

Alright, let me set the scene for you guys: We get into Worcester, near the Centrum center and see a sea of metal maniacs of all shapes and sizes streaming forth from the various parking decks/lots and into the arena. We get searched, and get to out seats to see mighty Motorhead well underway.

Among the songs they did in their set were “Metropolis,” “Killed by Death,” “Ace of Spades” and they encored with the kickass “Overkill.” Motorhead never fails to disappoint and I hope to see them again.

After a 15-minute break, Dio and his band emerge -- I am not too knowledgeable about Dio's works, but two things are certain: 1.) He can sing his ass off. 2.)Damn is he short! He had a lot of heart, though. Among the highlights of his set were “Stand Up and Shout,” “Holy Diver,” “Rainbow in the Dark,” “Heaven and Hell,” a furious drum solo mixed with the 1812 Overture, and a neat guitar/synth solo. Dio also gave us the horns he famously invented.

I got a beer during the 40-minute wait for Maiden. On the way back, I noticed this totally voluptuous blonde who must not have been a second over nineteen. Then I noticed her linebacker-sized boyfriend. She was wearing this kick-ass Iron Maiden shirt which showed off her assets quite nicely and I was left to wonder if there were other quality metal-femmes like her out there…

At 9:25, “Doctor, Doctor” is played over the PA and I know that means Maiden is up soon. Then the lights dim and a huge 666 made out of light bulbs erupts as a backdrop and an ominous voice intones, “Woe to you…” We went fucking nuts. Absolutely fucking nuts.

Wildest Dreams -- (new track, sounded pretty cool. Good chorus part and solos.) Before this song, Bruce had a pretty cool rant about how IM don't mind about music swapping over the Internet "unlike another band beginning with the letter M." Also he made us swear on our honor that we would buy the new one for what would amount to "4 beers" (Beers were $5) and that if it sucked shit, we could post it up on the Internet to our hearts desire.
The Clansman -- was introduced by a story about the guy who inspired the song (he also inspired the movie Braveheart) and how important freedom is, also the fact that the music industry sucks and just because your satellite TV has 900 channels, your freedom of choice is crap because that is all you have to choose from. Also, Nicko did a cool little dance during the instrumental intro to the song.
The Clairvoyant -- (this is where "King Eddie" emerged to the shock and delight of the crowd.)

Encores: The band came back out and Bruce told us that encores are crap, everyone does them and they’re not a surprise to anyone any more.
Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter -- (Bruce made the audience do the whoa-oh part over cause so many of us fucked it up.)
Run to the Hills

The triple guitar threat was awesome. Every stylistic pose and trick was done by messrs. Gers, Smith and Murray. Also Steve Harris did his traditional one-foot-on-amp-bass-machine-gun poses. They played great and sounded good. The whole band seemed genuinely happy to be there with each other, too.

I, of course, wish they could have done more. Also I wish I could see more of Nicko and his kit. He was scrunched in the back and I could hardly see him. That's my only complaint.

I had a fucking awesome time, and you should definitely check them out when they stop in your zip code.
