REVIEW BY: Mark Romero
Twisted Sister made their first concert appearance since 1987 with all of the original members at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea tonight as part of a USO Tour. The band had previously made an appearance at a charity show for victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks but this was their first full-fledged concert.
Frontman Dee Snider, guitarist Jay Jay French, guitarist Eddie Ojeda, bassist Mark "the Animal" Mendoza, and drummer A.J. Pero were in fine form. The band opened the show with “What You Don't Know (Sure Can Hurt You)” off the Under the Blade album. A classic tune and always perfect for the opening of a TS show. The band rocked on this tune. They sounded great. Dee still has a powerful voice after all these years although he can't hit all the higher notes. Understandably. To my surprise, the next song up was “We're Not Gonna Take It.” I thought this would be one of the encore songs but it came in at number 2.
The band steamrolled through several other classic TS songs before departing the stage and returning for the encore. They played “Come Out and Play” and then followed on with a reprise of “We're Not Gonna Take It.” This was, after all, a concert for the US Military stationed here at Kunsan Air Base, and playing the same song twice, especially a classic like this, went over very well. There was much more enthusiasm the second time around than the first. Alcohol may have had something to do with that.
The band played about an hour and a half and signed their pictures afterwards. It was great to see the guys back on the road. Overall, a great show.
