“Bang Tango” began sucking shortly after they took the stage at 1:30AM, and for roughly 90 minutes jerked the crowd around with a half-assed performance that was long on talk, short on content (3 covers in an 11-song set), and provided neither “bang” nor inclination to dance. For the same 15 Dollars it cost to get in, I could have gotten a hand-job from an Asian prostitute instead of getting dicked around by a low-rent Steven Tyler gigging for chump-change.
The crowd, which would have been impressive for an elevator, consisted mostly of aging women who’ve seen better days and the inside of a McDonald’s more than a few times, suckers like me -- ‘80s die-hards who have a weakness for this genre of music, and a smattering of tiny, waify blondes who congregated in front of the stage soaking up the sweat and the shameful performance of an otherwise talented and capable singer/frontman Joe LeSte, the only surviving member of a band that died years ago, has elected to resurrect the name, and tour it for a bit, while his much more exciting and contemporary band, “Beautiful Creatures” is on hiatus or something. Be that as it may- this version of “Bang Tango” is painful to watch and worse to listen to. The new line-up is a four-piece that is more hard-guitar centered than the five-piece funky-bass-heavy sound that Bang Tango owned. This was further marred by Joe LeSte’s rambling stage banter, which was about as interesting as listening to a Kinko’s employee explain at length why the turnaround for outsourcing color copies is measured in weeks not hours…
The vox were flat more often than not; the guitars drowned out the singer and bassist regularly, and the catchiest songs ended up being ones that Bang Tango didn’t write. A terrible, terrible show. If I had a band this lousy I would use pyro…
