FESTIVAL SETTING A NEW STANDARD FOR
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
Los Angeles, CA – February 10, 2003 – This summer, Lollapalooza, the festival phenomenon that changed the face of music in North America in the 1990s, returns with an extraordinary lineup of artists in a dynamic, new entertainment environment.
Perry Farrell, who first conceived the multi-stage event more than a decade ago, announced today that the new Lollapalooza will again transform live entertainment by fusing music, technology and lifestyle into a unique and powerful entertainment experience.
The press conference, featuring Jane’s Addiction along with members of Audioslave, Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age and Jurassic 5, was held at Amoeba Music in Los Angeles and included an impromptu jam session. In addition to revealing initial plans for the 2003 Lollapalooza tour, some of the cities the tour will visit were also announced (see attached). Jane’s Addiction, Audioslave, Incubus, Queens of the Stone Age and Jurassic 5 are the first groups confirmed to perform at the summer festival. Other artists and new festival elements will be announced in the coming weeks (check http://www.lollapalooza.com/press/ ).
“Lollapalooza created a unique culture during the ‘90s,” stated festival organizer Perry Farrell. “Now that we’ve had some needed time off to refresh and rejuvenate, we’re ready to return with a new Lollapalooza that will combine music, interactivity, and new ways of having fun in an exciting multimedia experience. The centerpiece of this Lollapalooza are bands who know, love and are passionate about music.”
“We’ve played Lollapalooza in the past and had a great time, but now it is back and better than ever,” added Tom Morello of Audioslave. “With an unbelievable line up and amazing ideas for the concert grounds, Lollapalooza is clearly THE concert of the summer. We are so psyched to be a part of it and can’t wait to get out there and rock it.”
Lollapalooza invented the touring music lifestyle festival, presenting cutting edge bands in the ‘90s and introducing the world to cultural trends that defined a generation. Those lucky enough to have been part of the phenomenon and Lollapalooza community never forget it. Everyone who watches MTV, listens to the radio, or reads the newspaper knows why Spin Magazine rated Lollapalooza the “#1 Tour That Changed The World.”
