IN 2003 EMISSIONS FROM THE MONOLITH GOES INTO ITS FIFTH YEAR
AT NYABINGHI IN YOUNGSTOWN, OH
Memorial Day Weekend: Friday, 5/23 - Sunday, 5/25, Three Days, 35+ Bands
confirmed acts include Alabama Thunderpussy, Halfway to Gone, Dixie Witch
Youngstown, OH - Today, festival producer, Greg Barratt announced the
fifth annual Emissions from the Monolith music festival. The festival lasts
three days over Memorial Day Weekend, from Friday, May 23rd through
Sunday, May 25th, 2003. The festival's home remains the rock club,
Nyabinghi which is located in Youngstown, OH at 1229 Salt Springs Road,
approximately one hour outside of Cleveland and an hour from
Pittsburgh, PA.
Emissions from the Monolith has been touted as one of the most important
up-and-coming rock music festival by MTV News, Alternative Press,
High Times Magazine, Metal Maniacs, Stonerrock.com, and KNAC.com. The
event is also featured annually by the local media including
Cleveland Free Times, Cleveland Scene, In Pittsburgh, Cleveland Plain
Dealer and Warren Tribune Chronicle. Last year's event poster was
created by controversial pop artist King Velveeda (www.cheesygraphics.com)
and in 2001, San Francisco-based pop artist Alan Forbes (best
known for creating the latest Offspring album art as well as the Black
Crowes’ trade mark magpie logo) created the festival poster.
"Emissions has been growing by leaps and bounds, we expect tickets to sell
out well in advance this year" Barratt remarks. Stoner rock, heavy
rock and metal bands aspire to showcase new material at the festival, as
well as meet up with fans and scene journalists from around the country
and from around the world (last year Orange Goblin, from England
performed). Barratt expects a capacity crowd this year. He believes he
may
soon have to find a larger venue to accommodate the growing popularity of
an event that he conceived of as a way to have all of his favorite
stoner, doom, heavy rock and psychedelic bands play in a comfortable
environment amongst like-minded musicians and fans.
Music critic Jason Bracelin (Cleveland Scene and Free Times editor) aptly
describes the festival as "Three days of piledriving reefer rock in a
Youngstown roadhouse that looks as if it were pulled from the reccesses of
David Lynch's scrambled brain, Emissions is a THC tour de force.
(Cleveland Scene, 5/23/02)." Lollipop enthuses "Can't say enough good
things about the tone of the event; nary a harsh word from anyone.
Woodstock '69? Dude, you shoulda been at Emissions ''02."
This year’s festival will feature performances by over 35 bands including
Throttlerod, Glasspack, Rwake, Volume, Cable, Halfway to Gone,
Disengage, Stinking Lizaveta, Men of Porn, Party Dream, Rebreather, Dragon
Green, Sofa King Killer, Alabama Thunderpussy, RPG, Tummler,
