Here we go again with an Evening with DOWN,
Last time when i was in L.A. i had the great pleasure to assist to a DOWN show at the House of Blues in Hollywood. It was the first time i was seeing them and I was not totally familiar with the two albums but the show did not leave me in the cold-- it rocked!. But this time I knew it was going to be an amazing Evening with DOWN in Montreal since i became a huge fan the last few months.
First off I have to mentioned that the guys were supposed to play here back in July of this year with System of a Down but had to cancel due to Philip scratching his cornea during his performance in Clifton Park the evening before. So by rescheduling an other show at a later date made me even more anxious to see them again. The venue was perfect ‘the Spectrum’ is a great place for shows in Montreal and the place was almost sold out without a doubt.
To begin the evening the guys gave us and eye full of footage from their lives on the road with the Ozzfest and a few evenings with the Down tour with a few old school videos of their favorite musicians Black Sabbath in Paris 1970 ,the Cro Mags Kiss and a few others which was a great way to start the show.
If my memory serves me right they opened with ‘Lifer’ which got the crowd totally insane and was followed by :
“Lysergik Funeral Procession”
“Temptation’s Wings”
“Losing All”
“Learn From This Mistake”
“Ghosts Along The Mississippi”
“Underneath Everything”
“New Orleans Is A Dying Whore”
“Stained Glass Cross”
“Stone The Crow”
“Jail” only the intro
"Bury Me In Smoke” for the encore
--Some songs might have been in a different order but it was along those lines--
They did not play ‘Eyes Of The South’ or ‘Beautifully Depressed’ which was a disappointment for me...The guys performance was good, nothing special 5 guys jamming on stage very friendly atmosphere and very simple and i think thats why so many people can relate to Down’s music and live shows its a what you see is what you get attitude no bullshit plain old bluesy southern rock with an edge.Over all it was an awesome night they were all very amazing . Nothing really out of the ordinary happened during the show but it was a kick ass show it was all about the music.
