Nobody had more fun in NYC last night than Sammy, Michael, Gary, The Waboritas, and the adoring fans for the midnight show at Irving Plaza! Nobody at Radio City for MTV's VMA's. Not P. Diddy, or Pink. Not even Bruce. Nobody.
Back in '86 or '87, would you have believed me if I told you in August 2002, Sammy would be playing a free NYPD/FDNY benefit at Irving plaza with a band called the Waboritas? With Michael Anthony? Without Eddie? With a tall guy named Gary Cherone who'd later become VH's 3rd singer?
Nah. You'd call me nuts.
What a show! Sammy turned the place upside down. For 90+ minutes, it WAS Cabo!
I assume the set list was mostly the same as the tour. Perhaps we were treated to a few extras at the end? Led Zep's "Rock & Roll.” Dylan's "Everybody Must get Stoned"
With about 500 NYPD in the room, Sammy & Co. puffed a doobie on stage. Nobody seemed to mind.
Sammy truly loves what he's doing and it's infectious.
Michael Anthony looked great! (You would too if you'd just spent weeks in Hawaii.)
Sammy: "I lost this guy for 5 years. I'm not losing him again!"
Say what you want about Dave, versus Sammy, versus Gary, versus Eddie (& Alex). At about 1:30 AM last night, while the unmistakable harmony of "When It's Love" was belted out by Sammy, Mikey, Gary and Co., you could almost see Eddie and Dave up there. Then again, maybe it was the Cabo Wabo Tequila. It's good stuff!
Make no mistake, it was one big happy party, and there's more to come.
