Former PANTERA Frontman Rocks A Full House In The Studio At Warehouse Live

What a way for Mr. Anselmo to start the tour then to do it in Houston, TX where Marzi resides. I have to admit this show felt a bit more charged, even before the music started. He was the last to take the stage and his presence was felt by everyone in the crowd and those on the other side of the bar watching from the Main room of Warehouse Live. That’s right they placed them in the Studio and let me tell you it was elbows to assholes. Every inch of the Studio was covered with people! Young and old the fans were there to witness this new band that Phil put together.

At first I was puzzled as to why they didn't put them in the Main room of Warehouse Live but then later came to the conclusion that by placing them in the Studio it made it a “full house”, where if they had been in the Main room it might not have been as energetic because the room might not have been as “full”. One might ask themselves “why wouldn't it be full” and I would have to answer with because ONE, the advertising for this show was more word of mouth than anything else. Houston doesn't have a great many “rock” stations anymore that advertise concerts and that becomes a problem for artists like PHILIP H. ANSELMO AND THE ILLEGALS. SECOND, PHILIP H. ANSELMO AND THE ILLEGALS are “newer” in the market and might not be as recognized as DOWN or other bands he has been a part of in the past decades.

THE ILLEGALS make a much more complicated, splintered-groove, quick-change kind of metal than his other bands of the last decade — lots of breaks, sequential or alternating riffs and strains and rhythms powered by double bass drums.

Mr. Anselmo barked, “I want to see them hands!” Hands shot up all around the room. People were jumping the barricade trying to get closer to the band and especially Phil. They especially took to the barricade jumping when they broke out into a PANTERA song. I witnessed Phil hug the neck of a security guard thanking them for keeping them people safe and for keeping he and his band mates safe as well.
