Overkill - Ironbound

It’s hard to believe that Overkill has been part of the underground scene for close to three decades. Arguably, they were the originators of a movement that has spawned some of the heaviest acts around today. Ironbound is Overkill’s 16th studio release and proof that the band is an ever-relevant, snarling beast of brutality that has only become better with…ahem…age.

Ironbound is not only a mature, refined and natural progression for Overkill, but a masterpiece that’ll have scores of zit-faced upstarts in bands with five-word titles going back to their jobs flipping burgers. “The Green and Black” is an Overkill pledge of allegiance to its fans that salutes the beginnings of thrash. The speedy, highly adrenalized, “Bring Me the Night” will be the greatest song to ever cause a case of whiplash. Every track loudly illustrates that bassist DD Verni and drummer Ron Lipnicki make up one of the most crushing rhythm duos in the business. Yeah, Bobby “Blitz“ Ellsworth’s vocals are as gutturally glorious as ever. The epic, “Endless War” unveils a galloping thunder reminiscent of Iron Maiden ala “The Trooper."

Dave Linsk’s guitar playing in “The SRC” (Subterranean Resistance Cult) is amazing, accentuated by Lipnicki’s furious tempo and crashes. For comparison: Ironbound is better than its predecessor, 2007’s Immortalis. It almost seems like Overkill was sandbagging some of their best material over the years, just waiting for the day to throttle us with it. Perfect timing. Excellent album.

FUCK YEAH for Overkill!!! This is the best they've done in ten years(Bloodletting to be specific)this band couldn't make a bad song if goddamn britney spears wrote their music for 'em!(ha just kidding. that would be some funny shit)and strange that somebody mentioned Badlands. i wanted to play Promise(From The Underground and Below album) but the wife hates Overkill(yes i married her anyway) so the 2nd choice was In A Dream by Badlands. way underrated band.

cannibal4life - 3/11/2010 6:36:20 AM

Hellhammer69 - 3/10/2010 6:08:54 PM
Overkill is CRIMINALLY under rated.....Badlands is fucking awesome

metaldominator - 3/10/2010 12:41:52 PM
these guys are still around. they have been underated and DD and Blitz deserve credit for sticking it out. now on to what I've been rocking to lately. Badlands....Jake E Lee fucking smokes and Gillen delivers some epic vocals as well. I fucking cranked the first 5-6 tracks of the debut the other day and almost blew out the windows of my car. they hold up so well to....they fucking rock !!!!
