From Boston.com:
It appears Steven Tyler won't hand over the mic without a fight.
Lawyers for the Aerosmith frontman have fired off a letter to the band's manager, Howard Kaufman, demanding that the band work with Tyler, not against him.
First reported by Billboard, the letter from Skip Miller requests Aerosmith's management "immediately cease and desist from engaging in acts and conduct to the harm and detriment of your own client, Aerosmith, and our client who is one of its members." Miller has also called a meeting of Aerosmith's "shareholders" on Feb. 9 to talk about the band's future, including recording new music and touring Europe and South America.
"We reserve all of our legal rights and remedies in this matter, including, without limitation, pursuing legal action for damages and other appropriate relief," Miller wrote, "Steven Tyler does not want lawsuits. We do not want to go in that direction. The direction we want is Aerosmith, with Steven Tyler, touring in Europe, touring Latin America, releasing a new album...This is the direction it's all intended to go. It's just amazing to me current management would be taking any other position."

Aero's great drug-tour, IMO
phrydom - 2/11/2010 10:30:50 AM Glam, I take back my comments regarding "Dream On", I was thinking of "Seasons Of Wither". "Seasons.." is in the top ten of the band for sure. Plus it's a tune one could write with only a few strings, so good for Tyler. It's my fav of the Aero ballads.
phrydom - 2/11/2010 8:38:11 AM Btw, Perry played bass on "Rocks" for several tunes, but i doubt he would consider himself a bass player. Dude, if bears attacked me I would run, but that doesn't make me a true "runner", does it?
phrydom - 2/11/2010 8:35:29 AM Glam, that is unfair, as we never got to see the Tyler Project. Perry is four times the musician Tyler is/was. Perry IS the backbone of Aerosmith. Regardles of what anyone says, Perry's riffs are the most important thing of a song, if it wasn't for him what the fuck would Tyler have to write over?
Glam_Chowder - 2/11/2010 8:22:41 AM Tyler played drums in bands before Aerosmith and has played drums on Aerosmith recordings - I don't know that that makes him a drummer, but take if for what it's worth.
Glam_Chowder - 2/11/2010 8:15:55 AM Given your take, it seems the Joe Perry Project and Whitford/St. Holmes Band should have been much more successful.
phrydom - 2/11/2010 8:11:57 AM ...btw, Tyler plays drums? LMFAO, in theory he probably does, same as I do math, so thus I'm a mathematician. Lol Think about it, Tyler may hit the skins, but he isn’t a drummer. T othink of Tyler as a drummer is to disrespect all those that are REAL drummers. I think he would attest to that.
phrydom - 2/11/2010 8:07:42 AM Glam, I never said he was replaceable, I said he was a great lyric writer, but not a songwriter, per se. Truth be told, Tyler wrote alot of those great vocal melodies--that Perry often refused to show up at the mike and sing…it caused alot of tension--but still, Perry/whitford produced the creative product for which Tyler could subsist on.
Glam_Chowder - 2/11/2010 8:02:01 AM So, Perry and Whitford wrote all the vocal melodies? I don't know - but I doubt it. Neal Peart and Bernie Taupin are lyricists, Tyler is a songwriter. If Tyler is just a lyricist, then Jagger and Plant must be considered the same, and just as replaceable.
phrydom - 2/11/2010 7:21:28 AM Glam--with few exceptions: Perry/Whitford wrote all those classic riffs that Tyler wrote shit around. It's a fact. Tyler is a great performer and lyric writer, but if "Dream On" is all you can mention, I think it goes without saying, he's a lyricist for the most part..and just a entertainer.
phrydom - 2/11/2010 7:18:06 AM Glam: true, but "Rocks" is a Perry album--and seeing how it was the most influential Aero album EVER, I don't see Tyler being relevant. Btw, Tyler wrote "dream on" on a warped acoustic that had just a few strings, so I don't see him writing Perry's guitar part, do you?
Glam_Chowder - 2/11/2010 7:08:40 AM A, phry, Tyler plays guitar, piano, and drums, among other instruments, and wrote/writes much of the Aerosmith music. "Dream On" is an all-Tyler tune. Hardly just a "lyracist." Although it's been a long time since there has been quality songwriting in Aerosmith from anyone.
