Well, what do you do when you've got two reporters at one of the year's biggest rock & roll press conferences? You post them both! What the hell! Check out accounts of Motley Crue's Hollywood, CA press conference announcing their reunion and worldwide tour plans, followed by a brief warm-up performance, from DJs Diana DeVille and Junkman... (Unfortunately, photo passes were granted only to an elite few... if anyone's got some guerilla pics, send 'em in!)

As reported by Rock Goddess Diana DeVille:

It was the secret that really wasn’t a secret, but was it? Throngs of people gathered at the Palladium Monday night as louder-than-hellraisers Motley Crüe held one hell of a coming-back party. The festivities kicked off with a press conference that began with the official Motley representatives and ended with the four original band members themselves announcing their return to the rock arena, which they did shortly after the press conference, performing for the fans.

The original plan was for Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee and Mick Mars to arrive in a helicopter at the Hollywood Palladium; however a eleventh-hour change of plans forced the quartet to arrive instead in a custom-made hearse.

Once inside, Motley Crüe unveiled their plans for 2005, which include a new single “If I Die Tomorrow” currently being released at radio with an accompanying video which premiered Monday night at midnight on VH1, a new album, Red White and Crüe, which hits record stores February 1, 2005, and a world tour which begins February in the U.S. and moves to Latin America (May), Europe (June-summer 2005) returning to the US August and September, and Japan, Southeast Asia and Australia in November/December.

When asked about the reason for the reunion at this time, when all the members are actively involved with other musical projects, television shows and books, drummer Tommy Lee summed it up by saying, “This one’s for the fans.” Mick Mars put to rest concerns about his recent health battles including a recent hip replacement surgery, by promising the crowd, “I’m gonna kick your fuckin’ ass.”

The Crüe proceeded to take the stage at the Palladium and rock the house with some of their classic tunes. Fists were raised in the air and the chants of “Crüe! Crüe! Crüe!” came through loud and clear as Vince announced, “We just want to let you know….that Motley Crüe is BACK!”

Set List

“Dr. Feelgood”
“Shout at the Devil”
“If I Die Tomorrow”
“Girls Girls Girls”
“The Wild Side”

As report by Junkman:

PRESS CONFERENCE:

It all started armed with my trusty notepad, my attitude, my trusty friend Raul, and my wristband. Upstairs we went to the Palladium, and found some seats amongst the rock press elite. Seems like everyone and their uncle were there with an assigned seat. Except for me – naturally! Found a seat right on the aisle, about two rows in front of all the cameras. Apparently the band was originally going to land in the parking lot in a helicopter, but for some reason, the city of Hollywood nixed that idea. So the band came rolling up in a hearse.

The head of Clear Channel of spoke on stage, and how excited they were to sponsor the tour alongside VH1. We were shown the new video for the track, “If I Die Tomorrow,” off their forthcoming CD, Red White & Crue. After that, the band was introduced and all four original members – vocalist Vince Neil, guitarist Mick Mars, bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee -- came out to a thunderous applause. Mick Mars, sporting a black hat and headband, got up and sat down several times, along with the rest of the members of the band, which is a pretty impressive thing since he recently underwent hip replacement surgery. Vince Neil, after his recent “makeover,” looked great – wide-eyed and red-haired, he was in high spirits. Tommy Lee, donned in a sideways baseball cap, seemed very much in tune with the spirit of the occasion. Nikki Sixx was his usual rock & roll self.

Firstly, they were presented an award from the RIAA for selling in excess of 40 millions records in their career. After acknowledging the press and saying how psyched they were to be back, the band answered questions from the press. I was lucky enough to be one of the few people picked. As I introduced myself as Junkman from KNAC.COM, the band’s interest seemed to perk right up. First I asked, “What opening acts have been discussed for the upcoming tour?” Nikki Sixx replied he really didn’t know yet, and didn’t want to think about that just yet. While I had the mic in my hand, my devious side took over, and I asked Vince Neil… if he could confirm the rumors that he would be performing the Chicken Dance at select dates on the tour. The band and the entire press room erupted in a combination of laughter and shock, knowing full well that Vince’s recent performance at the Octoberfest celebration in Cincinnati, OH won him the not-so-prestigious #1 slot on VH1’s 40 Least Metal Moments. He took it in stride and laughed about it, he said, no there were no plans to perform the dance on tour.

Clearly though the intention was getting the band downstairs on stage to perform. After the press conference was over, they opened the doors, and the fans poured in. Apparently during the daytime, they had to line up at the Hustler store to get a wristband to get into this event. It must have been a busy day at the Hustler store because the place was packed! I found a great spot in the balcony, and was very pleased to find out that the table in front of me was filled with Sixx’s wife, Donna D’Errico and kids, Vince’s fiancée and what looked like Tommy kids, and of course, all came complete with nannies.

THE PERFORMANCE:

Opening up the ceremony, Steve-o from MTV’s Jackass attempted to warm up the crowd. Breaking a beer bottle and slicing his tongue, he used the blood to make war paint his face. Many groans were heard in our section, and a few people wished he would’ve cut his jugular instead. After a few minutes he introduced… Motley fucking Crue!

The stage darkened except for some police lights and sirens, and the band burst into “Dr. Feelgood.” The crowd, by now, filling the lower section of the Palladium, was clearly psyched and sang along. Screaming “We’re baaaaaaack,” Vince Neil lead the band into “Shout at the Devil.” Thanking the crowd, Nikki Sixx called out the next song, “If I Die Tomorrow,” which is the new track of their anthology cd, which will be released in conjunction with their worldwide tour. The crowd seemed to get into it, although there was a conspicuous lack of a guitar solo.

Soon, the opening of strains of “Girls, Girls, Girls” lit up the room, and the band raged into it and the floor erupted into a huge singalong as the band clearly was rocking the house like they never left in the first place. Tommy stood up behind his drum kit, and said, “How about it for Steve-O?” The crowd was silent for the first time all night. Tommy Lee also said, “Can I get a ‘Fuck Yeah?’” and the crowd gladly obliged, and he said, “That’s we love you! Now let’s take a ride, bitch!” and the band launched into “Wild Side.” Once again the crowd went nuts, and with that, it was over, Vince Neil explaining... "Thanks... spread the word... we’re back!” before bowing and exiting the stage.
