Mutilation Tour -- Featuring B

REVIEW BY: Brian Jacobson

Last night, my friends and I went to the final night of the Mutilation Tour featuring Bleeding Through, Death By Stereo, Himsa and Loftus. The show was amazing! The crowd was crazy, and the pits were insane!

The show started at 7:45 and Loftus went onto the stage. As soon as the first chord was strummed a pit broke out. It was the first time I got to hear the band, and I was pretty impressed. Their riffs were slow and heavy, perfect for pitting, and the singer's voice was very similar to that of the singer of Converge. They played about a 6-song set and the crowd seemed to be liking it.

After about a 15-minute break, all the lights went out in the room. Next, all you could hear was the famous music to the Halloween movies. During this, the crowd was bunching up at the front, and the anticipation was building and building. The song got louder and louder, and then... the lights went on, and the immortal Himsa were on stage!!! I had seen Himsa twice before and was extremely excited to see them again. They kicked off the set with “Dominion” and the crowd was singing, circle-pitting, kicking, punching, it was great! Their set was composed mostly of songs off of Courting, Tragedy and Disaster. When they played “Jacob Shock,” my favorite song, the crowd went nuts. I even went crowd surfing for the first time and it was great. I have to bow down to Mathew Wicklund and Kirby Johnson (Himsa's guitar players) -- they were amazing: their dual solos, tapping, and rhythm playing were dead-on, and of course Johnny Pettibone's screaming was perfect! The band played about a 30-45 minute set and had the crowd in the palm of their hands. They ended the set and the crowd was going wild.

Everybody was still recovering from Himsa when the next band was getting set up. We saw a guy bring up a ladder and he had a flag in his hand, everybody watched and as soon as we saw Dea...we all started screaming: Death By Stereo was up next! Once again, all the anticipation started to build, and finally it started. They started playing and immediately a circle pit broke out. Me and my friend Andrew jumped right in and more people joined in. We pitted through that whole song, and then they played “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Salvation,” the song with the famous “Die! Die!” crowd fill-in. We were circle pitting, and then jumping on the backs of the people towards the front to scream “Die! Die!” They continued on and played “Holding 60 Dollars on a Burning Bridge,” “No Buts No Cuts No Coconuts,” “I Wouldn't Piss In Your Ear If Your Brain Was On Fire,” “Emo Holocaust” and other greats of theirs. The only thing I thought was stupid and gay was that they had two tvs on stage and during the middle of the show they started playing gay porn and started preaching to the crowd to be open and liberal minded... kinda scared the crowd but we just overlooked it… other than that they were great and played an amazing show!

After Himsa and Death by Stereo, the crowd was almost out of it, everybody had been battered from all the crowd surfing, pitting, and the room being like a 100 degrees wasn't helping the situation, but there was still one band left. Bleeding Through was the next band to go on. Everybody knew it was time when we saw their extremely hot female keyboarder come out and the rest of the band followed. Soon all the lights went out and a light blue shade covered the stage. A little static buildup was played and then the band kicked off show. Bleeding Through was amazing and the crowd used every bit of energy they had left. Alot of crazy stuff went on during their set. At one time during “Sweet Vampirious,” someone did a back flip in the pit at the same time of someone else's windmill and the guy doing the windmill got kicked real hard in the throat! They played a long set and they ended it with “On Wings of Lead” which was even better live! That song was a perfect ending to that show and that tour!
