Dizzy Reed Live at the Lucky D

Guns ‘N Roses keyboard player Dizzy Reed played to a sold-out crowd at the Lucky Dog in Worcester on March 19th. Dizzy was backed by LA rockers Fastmaster, who are also the opening act on Dizzy’s East Coast tour. Reed’s band includes Matt Starr and Alex Grossi of Beautiful Creatures on guitar and backing vocals, Troy Farrell on drums and Curtis Armstrong on bass.

I recently had the chance to interview singer Matt Starr on his thoughts on being Dizzy’s backing band on this East Coast tour. Starr says, "The shows with Dizzy are going to be a blast. It is going to be a bunch of friends getting together and playing great music. The band will perform alot of their favorite cover tunes." Starr and Grossi met Dizzy while performing at the Cat Club in Los Angeles.

Matt Starr's band Fastmaster hit the stage at 11 pm and played a 45 minute set of modern new age rock and roll. They opened the show with a Moody Blues song , "Nights in White Satin." The band then rocked the house with "Save Me," "Be Mine" and "Go." Starr has taken his career as a musician to a new level with Fastmaster. The songs remind me of early Nirvana with deep emotion and a new raw edge sound. Fastmaster have a new three-song demo that was recorded at Top Secret Studio in Burbank, California by James Book. Dizzy Reed hit the stage at midnight and proceeded to rock the house down until closing. The band played all of their favorite cover tunes including "Mama Kin," "Surrender," featuring Matt Starr on vocals, a great rendition of "Knockin On Heaven’s Door” with Dizzy playing acoustic guitar and singing his heart out. Dizzy played alot of Rolling Stones tunes, including a rockin’ version of "Sympathy For the Devil" and "Let it Bleed."

The energy and chemistry of the band were amazing. It was so much fun seeing the band having a great time on stage. Matt Starr and Alex Grossi from Beautiful Creatures jammed on the KISS song "Strutter."

All in all, it was a great night of live music at the Lucky Dog. The audience got to see a legend from GNR perform in a special club setting. Dizzy Reed is an extraordinary performer, and watching him make that special connection between him and his fans was so much fun. The band ended the show with "Saturday Night Is Alright For Fighting."
