Stryper Live at the House of B

A four-piece rock band called 7 Hours Later opened up for Stryper live Sunday evening at the House Of Blues located within the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino at 8pm in Sin City.

A general admission concert ticket cost $25.00 and that was easily worth paying because Stryper totally rocked the place! Michelob presented the reunited hard rockin' quartet on their Seven tour while in support of their latest release, which is a greatest hits album.

The house lights were dimmed as a tape-recorded version of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" blasted the venue… then Robert Sweet (drummer) walked on stage in his famous yellow & black colors! Oz Fox (guitarist) was next in taking the stage, Tim Gaines (bassist) & then Michael Sweet (vocalist & guitarist) joined the others on stage. It was a real treat to see all of the original members reunited and ready to rock!

The three guys up front did not wear their famous yellow & black costumes, but the staging was completely reminiscent of the old days. The triangle-shaped Stryper logo curtain was in place. Bibles, pamphlets and a few guitar picks were tossed into the crowd and Michael Sweet even closed the show with a prayer. Here is a rundown of the tunes which were performed:

Sing Along Song / Makes Me Wanna Sing / Calling On You / Free / More Than A Man / For You / Something / In God We Trust / Caught In The Middle / You Won't Be Lonely / Reach Out / Loud N' Clear / The Way / Soldiers Under Command / Abyss / To Hell With The Devil / Honestly / Winter Wonderland

I've seen this group in concert several times and they are consistently remarkable. Each member has definitely been blessed with an enormous amount of talent. The House Of Blues holds 1,800 people as a total capacity and I'd say the show was just over 70% full. Audience members were very much into the group's flawless and energetic show.

Michael can still sing so incredibly well it's just amazing to hear him hit the high notes like the old days. Oz was his usually zany but powerful self on guitar and vocals parts (he even played a riff from an old UFO song), Tim delivered a solid bass groove. Robert (the visual time keeper) pounded away at his tremendous drum kit and he wore various unique looking hats through out different songs.

The band recently recorded a gig for DVD release as they performed in Denver, Colorado. Last night they rocked Albuquerque, New Mexico and then tomorrow Stryper rocks Los Angeles, California!
