King's X Live at the Lincoln T

REVIEW BY: Shannon Becker

It's been almost ten years since I've seen them, so needless to say I was so geeked when I found out there were coming to Raleigh! This was my third time seeing this band.

A local band called Runaway Cab opened and got the crowd warmed up. Solid band, but trying a little too hard to be showy.

King's X came out and kicked ass!! I brought a friend that had never heard of them and needless to say... he's hooked. Their set included songs from their new album, Black Like Sunday (unfortunately I don't remember the names, I was too busy screaming and jamming to the music!!), "Black Flag," "Dogman," "Over My Head," "We Were Born To Be Loved" and others. Doug's message of the evening was "not to let anyone tell you that your music sucks, no matter what kind you listen to" and as always… Faith, Hope, Love... :)

It was great to see them in a smaller venue. The two previous shows I had seen were at the Tucson Convention Center. Still great shows, but this was so much better being able to be closer to the band and really get into the music. Ty and Doug did some great jam sessions during the show. You could see that they were just going with it and having a great time! Doug sang his ass off! Not a bad note and the band was tight!! You could see the connection they have with each other. It's always so awesome to see a band like this live. There's a reason this band was on the list of most influential bands comprised by VH-1 and why they are still playing together after 23 years!! These guys are awesome and play the music they love and it shows!! The crowd was so into them. I was actually surprised at the size of the crowd considering this band has never really gotten any kind of airplay or attention in the mainstream! But it was great to see everyone totally into the music! I would definitely recommend anyone seeing these guys live!! If you like heavy music with a unique sound and great harmonies, see King's X... they'll blow you away!!
