It was a cold winter night in Portland, Maine. When I spoke to my long time friend Don Dokken, earlier that month and he told me was a announcing a major Dokken tour and would be playing in my area on New Year’s Eve at a club called the Asylum I was excited. Needless to say the show rocked. I had never and experience the new lineup. The band arrived on stage around a quarter of midnight Don wore his black fur coat and sunglasses. He clearly stole the show, from the moment, he hit the stage until closing with “In My Dreams,” he proved he is still one of the best singers around today.
After the opening song Don did the usual New Year’s Eve countdown. He announced that it was Dokken’s 20th Anniversary. The band then proceeded to play a couple of new songs from their new album Long Way Home. The first song, “Sunless Days,” is about the Sept. 11th incident and has a very haunting melody, very catchy. “Little Girl” truly rocks and is destined to be the next Dokken hit. The new songs were well received. They played a lot of the same songs from Live From The Sun CD but they sounded so much better with this new lineup. John Norum plays the guitar solos better than George and Barry’s bass playing goes very well with Mick drumming. Everyone gave 100 percent and it was so cool to see the guys onstage having fun. They came to rock the house and they succeeded.
Don and the boys are Back for the Attack, go and see them on tour, trust me, you will not be disappointed. After the show, I got to talk to Don and he is excited about the tour and new album, it is clear to see, Dokken will be a major force in the music industry this year.
