Poison returned to the New England area August 16th to play the Verizon Arena in Manchester, NH. Poison burst onto the music scene in 1986 and it clear to see why they are still one of the top drawing music acts in the country today. Lead singer Bret Michaels had the flu and a 103 temperature, but he still gave one of the best shows I have seen all summer. Any other performer would have canceled the show. Here is my review of the concert.

Skid Row hit the stage at 7:30. The wait is finally over and the band has just released it’s third album in seven years called Thick Skin. By the response of the audience that night, Skid Row has a whole new generation of fans. The band had the audience singing along to all of their songs. From the moment they opened the show with “Slave to the Grind” until closing with “Youth Gone Wild,” the band rocked the house down.

The band played all of their hits including 2 versions of “I Remember You.” The first version of the song was punk oriented, and the second version was an a acoustic version, which lead singer Johnny Solinger dedicated to their fans who died in the Station Nightclub tragedy.

The band played two songs off their new album Thick Skin. The first song was called “New Generation,” and the second “Thick is the Skin.” The songs were hard and heavy. They reminded me of music from the Slave to the Grind album with a modern day twist. They had the Skid Row sound of heavy guitars and haunting melodies.

Lead singer Johnny Solinger did an awesome job. His vocal range was amazing. Snake Sabo played acoustic guitar on “I Remember You.” The band got a standing ovation on “Youth Gone Wild.” The band put on a nonstop, kickass show from start to finish. Skid Row return to New England October 3rd to play Club Liquid in Leominster, MA. Check out www.skidrow.com for further tour dates and their latest album Thick Skin is available in music stores now.

Next up on the bill was ex-Motley Crue singer Vince Neil. He played over an hour of all the Motley Crue hits. Vince knew what the audience wanted and the band delivered a great night of music. Vince was in good voice, and you could tell he was having fun onstage. Backed by guitarist Jason Hook, drummer Brent Fitz and bassist Alan Vine -- the boys rocked. They opened the show with “Live Wire,” and played “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Same Ol' Situation” and “Wildside.”

Vince played guitar on a few songs and Jason Hook, and drummer Brent Fitz jammed on the encore “Teaser.” They ended the show with “Kickstart My Heart.” The band also has a new live album out called “Live at the Whisky -- One Night Only.” For further tour dates check out www.ratdaddyvince.com. The highlight of the night was when they played “Home Sweet Home.” The audience had a great time and Vince and his band rocked Manchester, NH.

Next up was Poison, who played over an hour and a half of nonstop party music. Bret Michaels wearing a “Support your troops t-shirt” and gave one of the best shows I have seen all summer.

They opened the show with “Look What the Cat Dragged In.” From that moment on, everyone was in the aisles having a great time. The band then played a cool version The Who’s song “Squeeze Box.” Bret Michaels played acoustic guitar on “I Won’t Forget You,” and dedicated that song to all the Station Nightclub Victims.

Rikki Rockett rolled into “Your Mama Don’t Dance” and Bret played harmonica on that song. C.C. DeVille played a special set of Jimi Hendrix guitar licks, celebrating Hendrix’s birthday.

The band also played a new song off their new album, “Stand up For What You Believe.” It was very catchy. My favorite part of the show was when Bret Michaels played acoustic guitar on “Something to Believe In” and “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn.” Poison had a very impressive stage setting. A waterfall was displayed during “Every Rose…” and they had strobe lights and flash pods during alot of their songs.

The last part of the show was the party version. The band played “Unskinny Bop,” “Talk Dirty to Me” and “Nothing But a Good Time.” Bret Michaels and Poison delivered one of the best shows to hit New England this summer. Bret will be doing a special solo tour starting in October. He will return to New England October 21st at Axis in Boston. For further tour dates and info check out www.poisonweb.com.
