Outta the Trash and Into the Gutter.....

Well with a title like that, you would think, this is going to be bad. Well not true, this band, would probably love the title, and after reading this, you’ll get the meaning.

The Erotics, from New York been getting a lot of buzz on the internet, lately as an up n coming band, in the vein of that New York style, Glam, Punk, Trash. Well these guys take a page right of that book that was written by other New York bands before them, like The Ramones, NY Dolls, Johnny Thunders, hell anyone remember Sweet Pain.

I was pretty excited to get the chance to see these guys as in the Philly area, we don’t get the chance to see many cool bands believe it or not, so I went to the Erotics, for my trashy glam fix that I needed and I got it.

With the band playing songs off their previous releases and their new cd, which comes out June 13th, these guys just flat out rocked. From the opening song “All That Glitters,” and into “Banged Up” and “Agony and Xtasy.” I was already impressed just by the 3 openers.

The Erotics have a new lineup. They were once a 4-piece, but have downsized to a 3-piece, with Billy Bel Aire on bass, and Mik King on drums, and the man who’s vision this band is, Mike Trash. Mike Trash is the founding member of the Erotics and this guy is just oozing New York Rawk ‘n Roll.

Next up was “Fast Cars and Porno Stars” and “It’s True” which reminded me of classic Johnny Thunders and really showed that old school Glam/Punk influence. Then they introduced the next song, “Helen Keller.” I laughed to myself, ‘why would you write a song about her?’ Well, the lyrics are classic: “She doesn’t bitch and she doesn’t complain, because she can’t hear or she can’t see.”

They played “Super Model Suicide” which is on their new CD, and “Stick it In” which is a nice li’l ditty about anal sex, I know, ‘nuff said.

The Erotics, who have a release on Fastlane Records, played “Girls on Drugs” from their 21st Century SOB disc, which I haven’t heard this cd, but it did get great reviews, so I’m going to have to pick this disc up.

As they again, announced their new cd coming out in June, they played 2 more songs off that upcoming release, “Gas Chamber Barbie Doll” and “Space Age Mafia.” Then to round off the set, Mike Trash lets the crowd now, this song is about his first girlfriend, the best looking girl he’s ever gone out with and she just had one problem, she had a penis. Yeppers, Mike Trash name speaks for itself doesn’t it. This lead to “Teenage Dragqueen.”

To make the night complete, they paid homage to one of their main influences, The Ramones, with “Somebody Put Something in My Drink” and a AC/DC classic, “Whole Lotta Rosie”

Well if your looking for a good night of rock n roll, with New York, Punk, Trash, Glam, all rolled into one, The Erotics are the band for you. The band was more glam in their older days, now leaning more towards their punky trashy roots, but bottom line, the music rocks. Don’t forget to check out there new release All that Glitters is Dead on June 13th, and to keep up to date on all the info go to www.eroticrocknroll.com.
